Elastomeric engagement

Seats held with elastomeric engagement employ a pin (usually male) on the seat that engages in a tight-fitting (usually female) fitting on the frame. The seat is held by the elastomer with no extra clamping mechanism. There is more flex and loss of efficiency as compared to clamped or fully welded systems, but less flex and more efficiency as compared to pinned seats. Elastomerically engaged seats enjoy a theoretical comfort advantage over clamped or welded seats due to the cushioning effect of the elastomers.
