BARC Monthly Ride - Monterey Peninsula Trail (Marina, CA)

October is usually the nicest month of the year in the Monterey area. As warm as summer, but without the fog! Great scenery on this trail and worth the drive. We’ll make this a bit longer than our typical monthly ride to make it even more worth the drive (option to turn around at Lovers Point for 24-mile ride). After lunch I plan to ride some additional mileage, would be happy to have company.

Meet in the parking lot next to the Jack in the Box on the corner of Reservation Rd and Del Monte Blvd in Marina, CA.

Distance: 34 miles (24 mile optional)

Pace: 8-10 mph on flat ground, higher/lower on uphills/downhills

Climbing: There is not a lot of climbing but there are a few sections,[masked] yards long, that are a little bit steeper (~6%). A few sections >200 yards with more gradual grade. Most, if not all, riders have managed to ride these sections when we’ve ridden this route in the past.

Day-6 semi-recumbent bikes will be in stock again soon. Production delays have made Day-6 bikes a limited-availability commodity for the past two months, but the wait is almost over.

There are three routes: 15, 35, and 70 miles. Leslie, Carol and I are planning to do the 35 mile route as it has only 970' of climbing. The 70 mile route has 3404' of climbing. All three routes are fully supported with SAG vehicles, well-stocked rest stops, route markings, and cue sheets.
