Del Puerto Canyon road ride (Patterson, CA)
It is a bit of a drive to get to but this road is a wonderful experience now while the temps are mild and the scenery is at its annual best. If you've never ridden Del Puerto Canyon Rd. in early April you're in for a treat.
The first couple miles of Del Puerto Canyon Rd. winds among low rolling, grass-covered hills before it changes character and starts to climb ever-so-gently alongside Del Puerto Creek. On the approach to the Minniear Day Use Area one begins to notice patches of wildflowers in the hills and along the roadside. Frank Raines Park (16 miles in) is a convenient place to take a break before heading up to Adobe Springs to refresh water bottles and return to Patterson for lunch.
Distance: 40 miles. The California Aqueduct bike path is an option for additional mileage after lunch
Pace: 13-15 mph if on flat ground--less or more if uphill or downhill
