Mt. Diablo in April

We will be doing this hilly 79 kilometre ride from the Dublin/Pleasanton BART station to the summit of Mt. Diablo and back primarily as a training ride for longer rides coming up in May. As such, stops will be kept to a minimum. We are also hoping to see some wildflowers on Mt. Diablo. There is a visitor centre at the summit that sells Gatorade and snacks. There will be a lunch stop in Black Hawk on the way back. We will use the South Gate entrance to Mt. Diablo State Park in both directions just like the New Years Day ride described here:

Note the descent on Mt. Diablo is long and twisty so anyone doing this ride should make sure their brakes are in top condition and they know how to use them to properly control speed and manage brake heat. Every year a number of cyclists crash descending Mt. Diablo, sometimes resulting in serious injuries. To encourage safety, Park Rangers on Mt. Diablo strictly enforce the speed limit and issue citations to cyclists who are speeding.

[Disclaimer: This item was posted on April Fools Day, 2017. It is not to be taken seriously, though, perhaps, half-seriously. The rack and the trike are real and not Photoshopped. The trike is a Terratrike (perhaps an older Tour) and the rack is based on HP Velotechnik design.]

Catrike has resolved its production issues for the eon-green color and is now producing recumbent trikes in this color again.

27 Mar 2017 - 10:09am

Catrike has discontinued its popular Hyper-yellow and Eon-green colors due to supply issues with the green powder-coating ingredient used in both colors.

HP Velotechnik offers electric recumbent trike options for most trikes models using Shimano STEPS motor system.

Shimano has entered the e-bike market with its STEPS motor system, and HP has adapted this system to most of its recumbent trike models.

Come on out and ride the Coyote Creek Trail (CCT) then afterward, if you like, ride (or drive) over to the Hellyer Park Velodrome to participate in and/or watch some recumbents race on the track!

7 May 2017 - 11:00am

Sorry for the late post. The last two years I was able to organize a space for BARC and participate in a pre-ride, but my brass concert season has prevented it this year.
